Life @ IHRD (1993-1995)

Institute Of Human Resources Development (http://www.ihrdkerala.org), is an autonomous body under Kerala State Government that runs Engineering Colleges and Colleges of Applied Sciences in the state. The IHRD is dedicated Scientific advancement technological progress and economic growth of the country through human resources development.

The institute carries out its tasks through a network comprising the central set-up at Thiruvananthapuram and Regional Centres, Equipment Maintenance Centres, Medical Diagnostic Facilities and a wide variety of College, Polytechnics and Technical Schools.  The effectiveness of the institute is considerably enhanced because its educational / Training tasks are strengthened by the work experience gained from its equipment maintenance centre and community service facilities.

I joined IHRD in 1993 as a Computer Engineer. I worked initially in Model Engineering College in Kochi and then spent about more than a year in their College of Applied Sciences in Peerumade. Peerumade is in the Idukki District of Kerala State and is known for its scenic beauty. It is a very ideal tourist spot surrounded by the greenery of tea gardens, beautiful meadows, deep puzzling valleys and dales.

These two years enabled me to enrich and brush up my academic skills that gained during my college days. Even though my interests were in programming, I enjoyed these days because I was learning. The subjects of my interest were Computer Networks and Database Management Systems. I enriched my skills on the C Programming language and learned C++ and Clipper these days.

I resigned from IHRD in November 1995 when I got selected as a Management Trainee in Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore limited.
